PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an inorganic porous material having open pores adopting a combustion synthesizing method which enables inexpensive production in a short time of the second unit, replacable to the conventional sintering method. SOLUTION: The method for producing an inorganic porous material having open pores contains at least the following steps of (1) to (3): (1) A step wherein a plurality of kinds of metal powders capable of forming an intermetallic compound by exothermic reaction are used as the raw material, and the plurality of kinds of metal powders are mixes. (2) A step wherein the mixture of the plurality of kinds of metal powders obtained by the above stage is compacted into a prescribed shape. (3) A step wherein a part of the compact obtained by the above steps is ignited, and combustion synthesizing reaction is allowed to occur.
