PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To relaxe production of defective pixels due to shading abnormity by interpolating normal pixels present in the vicinity of the defective pixels to the defective pixels which are determined as defective resulting from dust, dirt or flaws on a shading white reference board. SOLUTION: In correcting shading, after reading white level data by one line of the white reference board, read values Wt1, Wt2 of pixels determined to be normal pixels closest to pixels determined defective are averaged and read data of the defective pixels are replaced with the averaged result.
