PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image read method and an image reader which can read an image at a low cost with a high efficiency without the need for a particular CCD clock generating circuit, and to provide an image forming device provided with the same. SOLUTION: The image reader can read the image of an original in a still read mode where the image is read from a stationary original, a running read mode where the image of the carried original is read, and a double side read mode where images of both sides of the original are read while the original is carried. In the double side read mode, both a 1st read section 10 and a 2nd read section 23 are used at the same time. The 1st read section 10 and the 2nd read section 23 respectively receive operation clocks 1, 2 to control reading of the original. Counters 74, 75 respectively count the operation clocks 1, 2 and the counts are compared with predetermined reference values 1, 2 respectively. Proper values are set to the reference values 1, 2 so as to decrease a difference of a read time in the subscanning direction between the 1st read section 10 and the 2nd read section 23.
