PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing 1,3-dialkyl-2-imidazolidinones in high yield by which the formation of by-products is suppressed. SOLUTION: This method for producing the 1,3-dialkyl-2-imidazolidinones comprises heating a monoalkylamine and its disproportionation product present in a reactional mixture produced by a reaction at >=50 deg.C in the presence of carbon dioxide, separating a liquid from a gas, thereby removing the disproportionation product into the vapor phase, separating and recovering the monoalkylamine and/or its carbon dioxide compound into the liquid phase and reutilizing the resultant monoalkylamine and/or its disproportionation product as a second component in the method comprising mixing a first component composed of 1,2-diols with the second component composed of one or more kinds of (A) the carbon dioxide and the monoalkylamine, (B) the carbon dioxide compound of the rnonoalkylamine and (C) a 1,3-dialkylurea, heating the resultant mixture at >=50<=, carrying out the reaction and providing the 1,3-dialkyl-2- imidazolidinones.
