PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrochromic element which can be manufactured from an inexpensive coloring agent by a simple method and whose color tone is variable and provided with flexibility. SOLUTION: The electrochromic element wherein an ion conduction layer containing an organic compound having reductive electrochromic characteristics and an organic compound having oxidative electrochromic characteristics is interposed between two conductive substrates at least one of which is transparent, is characterized in that the transparent conductive substrate consists of a conductive film which can be deformed by stress.
