PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a hair treatment capable of providing the hair with curling property and straightening property without damaging the hair. SOLUTION: This hair treatment comprises a cationic surfactant, a higher alcohol and an oil component as main components, contains 2-11 wt.% of a reducing agent and is prepared by adjustment to pH 7-12. In order to carry out a set for providing the hair with curling property using the hair treatment, the hair is coated with the hair treatment, allowed to stand for 3-30 minutes, washed with water and dried to a state with a partially left water. The hair may be wound on a rod part of a hair iron for curling at 60-220 deg.C and heat- treated. In order to carry out a set for providing the hair with straightening property, the hair after drying may be laid between plate parts of a hair iron for straightening at 60-220 deg.C and pressed under heating.
