PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information retrieval system and an information retrieval apparatus allowing even a person with no professional knowledge about matters to be retrieved to easily acquire desired matters to be retrieved or information on the matters to be retrieved. SOLUTION: In the system, an information retrieval apparatus 1 retrieves information on an illumination appliance A stored into a storage medium B, and a direct retrieval C, an image retrieval D, a wisdom E on lighting and a function F of lighting are displayed linked with each other on a display device 4. Moreover, even a person with no professional knowledge on the appliance A can simply and easily retrieve the desired appliance A and can arrive at the appliance A having a desired function, an image, etc. More than one piece of information on the appliance A is displayed integrally on a single screen, and functions, effects, states of installation, ways of installation, etc., of the appliance A are recognized visually in a virtual sense.
