PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a size of an internal combustion engine in the direction orthogonal to an axial direction of a rocker shaft, by reducing, in the direction orthogonal to the axial direction of the rocker shaft in a plan view, a size of a holder formed with a holding part holding a lost motion mechanism. SOLUTION: This overhead camshaft type valve system comprises: driving rocker arms 42 and 43; and the lost motion mechanism 80. The driving rocker arms 42 and 43 are supported to be capable of rocking to a rocker shaft 40 fixed to a cam holder 23 which supports a can shaft 20, and are respectively interlocked and coupled to an intake valve 8 and an exhaust valve 9. The lost motion mechanism 80 urges to a cam side free rocker arms 44 and 45 which can be free with respect to the intake valve 8 and the exhaust valve 9. In a fastening part of the cam holder 23 fastened to a cylinder head 1 by a bolt B2 inserted to a pair of insertion holes 27 of the fastening part, holding parts 70 and 71 formed with a holding hole (72) 73 in which the lost motion mechanism 80 is stored are integrally formed at a position in which the holding hole (72) 73 and the insertion holes 27 overlap to each other in the orthogonal direction A3 orthogonal to the axial direction of the rocker shaft 40 in the plan view.
