PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a double-sided original reader that can excellently read images on front and rear sides of an original by decreasing a difference of illuminance on the original surfaces between front side reading and rear side reading of the original. SOLUTION: Light sources 50, 81, a CCD 15 acting like a light receiving section and an image sensor 83 are respectively provided in 1st and 2nd read sections 10, 32 placed to an upper-stream side carrying path section 33b extended from a curved carrying path 102 toward an upper-stream in an original carrying direction nearly in a planar shape and to a downstream side carrying path section 33c extended toward a downstream in the original carrying direction nearly in a planar shape. Further, a reflection mirror 103 leading an emitted light from the light source 50 to a read area P2 of the 2nd read section is provided, and when the 2nd read section is used to read an original, even the light source of the 1st read section is driven and the reflection mirror 103 leads the emitted light from the 1st light source to the read area P2 of the 2nd read section.
