PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a diagnostic method which is capable of surely diagnosing whether the buffering function of a player is normal or not and diagnosing at which point abnormality occurs when the buffering function is diagnosed to be abnormal. SOLUTION: The data for diagnosis read from the disk for diagnosing buffering is subjected to buffering processing and the data for diagnosis subjected to the buffering processing is recorded into a buffer memory 34. The data for diagnosis recorded within the buffer memory 34 reads out the top segments of respective frames and checks if these segments are integer multiple of the second prescribed information quantity or not by each of the respective frames, if the respective top segments by each of the respective frames increases continuously by each second prescribed information quantity by each of the respective frames or not and if the quantity value by each of the first prescribed information quantities in the respective frames increases continuously in a sequential order by each of prescribed numbers or not, by which whether the buffering function is normally functioned or not is diagnosed.
