A color image forming device for forming a toner image of a plurality of colors on a medium, wherein toner dust at a secondary transfer is reduced. A medium (50) is brought into close contact with a transfer belt (24) on the upstream side of a secondary transfer nip so as to remove a gap between the belt (24) and the medium (50) in a region in front of a transfer position and affected by a transfer electric field. After the close contact, a transfer voltage is applied to the transfer nip. To make up for some gap inevitably produced due to an incomplete close contact, a dust preventing electrode (34) is provided as an auxiliary means between a secondary transfer unit and a close contact position so as to suppress a transfer electric field to thereby significantly reduce toner dust before transferring and enable a high−grade printing.
