In a photodynamic therapy method for killing tumor cells in humans by application of light to photosensitizers in, on or in the vicinity of the cells to be destroyed, the photosensitizer is a chlorin (I) carrying a carbonyl group in a beta -position of the tetrapyrrole ring system. A photodynamic therapy method for non-invasive reduction of tumor cells in the human organism involves directly or indirectly killing the cells by application of light to chlorin photosensitizers of formula (I) in, on or in the vicinity of the cells to be destroyed. M = 2H or metal; R<1>-R<4> = alkyl or aryl (both optionally substituted, specifically by alkoxy, OH, NH2 or COOH), and R<5> = 1-7C alkyl. (N.B. These definitions of substituents are taken from the disclosure, since no definitions are given in the claims). |
