A disc brake (100, 200, 300) has a support member (112, 212, 312) secured to a vehicle with a first guide pin (36, 236, 336) located in a first bore (40, 240, 340) and a second guide pin (142, 242, 342) located in a second bore (146, 246, 346) of a support member (112, 212, 312). The caliper is characterized by a first ear (38, 238, 338) that extends from an actuation section (118, 218, 318) while a second ear (114, 244, 344) extends from an arm (120, 220, 320). The first (38, 238, 338) and second (144, 244, 344) ears are located on opposite sides of a roter (34) and are engaged by first and second guide pins. This prevents twisting and thereby maintains friction members (30, 32) in a parallel alignment with the rotor (34). With changes in the thickness of the friction members caused by wear the arm (120, 220, 320) moves towards the support member, and correspondingly the bearing length (12) of the second pin is increased while the bearing length (11) of the first pin is decreased. Increase and decrease in the hearing length are cumulative and result in a substantially constant bearing length of engagement between the guide pins and the support member.
|
