A modular connector (10) having multiple ports, comprising a housing (12) having a first end (14, 16) and a second end (18), a first optical port (14) on the first end, a second (16) optical port on the first end, a third optical port (18) on the second end, a fiber bragg grating "FGB" (26) within the housing (12) optically connected to the first port (14), the FBG (26) configured to reflect a set wavelength back and away from the first port (14), a coupler (28) within the housing (12) optically connected to the FBG (26), the second port (16), and the third port (18); and wherein each of the optical ports (14, 16, 18), once connected, is capable of supporting the housing (12) without additional support.
