PURPOSE: A method for preparing a metal-coated aromatic polyimide film and a metal-coated aromatic polyimide film are provided, wherein the film shows a high peel strength between a polyimide film and a metal coating. CONSTITUTION: The method comprises the steps of treating an aromatic polyimide film which is composed of a polyimide substrate layer containing an aromatic polyimide having a biphenyltetracarboxylic acid unit in its molecular structure which is coated with a polyimide surface layer containing an aromatic polyimide having a bendable bonding in its molecular structure, with the electric discharge under the reduced pressure, to produce the protrusions connected with each other in the form of network of chain on the surface layer; and forming at least two metal films on the surface layer where the protrusions are formed. Preferably the average height (average surface roughness; Ra) of the protrusions is 0.03-0.1 micrometers. |
