A hand-held device for curing a photosensitive dental composition curable by irradiation with light of predetermined wavelength includes: a handle for gripping by a user; a light emitting diode head assembly attached to the handle provided with a light emitting diode and a single convergent lens having an axis defined by its focal points wherein the light emitting diode is mounted in the head assembly at a position laterally offset from the axis of the lens; and a power supply coupled to the light emitting diode.
