The invention relates to a defrosting or antifreeze agent which is water or glycol-based, containing at least 0.01 to 1 % wt of at least one alkali meta l salt of polyaspartic or polyglutamic acids or a mixture thereof, having a total molecular weight of 5000 to 50 000 g/mole. The invention also relates to the use of alkali metal salts of polyaspartic or polyglutamic acids, or a mixture thereof, having a total molecular weight of between 5000 and 50 000 g/mole, in proportions of 0.01 to 1 wt % in relation to the defrosting or an ti- freeze agent, as a flame-retarding agent in defrosting and anti-freeze agent s for aeroplanes.
