A low-pressure mercury vapour discharge lamp (1) comprising a discharge vessel (2) having two end portions (3), wherein an electrode carrier (9) is arranged in an end portion (3) and carries an electrode (10) for generating and maintaining a discharge in said discharge vessel (2), wherein said electrode carrier (9) is at least partly made of a bimetal or a memory metal, and wherein said electrode carrier (9) is formed such that the distance between said electrode (10) and the far end of said end portion (3) increases if the temperature of said electrode carrier (9) increases.
