The car transporter has upper (20) and lower (10) platforms fastened by bolts to columns (31). Chains or cables attached to the bolts pass over a fixed roller (41) and a movable roller (42) attached to a hydraulic piston-and-cylinder drive (50, 51) whose stroke (KH) is slightly larger than one half of the distance between platforms (EH). The bolts are held in place by a locking system (60) when the hydraulic drive is not operating.
