The surface coating, as a protection against corrosion on the inner surfaces of hollow bodies and especially plastics containers, is formed by filling the hollow interior with a gas mixture which can be detonated. The mixture contains a gas precursor to form the surface coating. The gas mixture is detonated, or it detonates spontaneously. All the openings in the vessel are sealed, and a tube (20) gives a gas escape after detonation, with its inlet opening (21) within the hollow interior of the hollow container (20), at a gap from its wall (11). Tubes (31,32) feed the gas mixture into the hollow interior before detonation. The gas mixture is composed of air, oxygen, dinitogen, nitrogen, argon, helium, hydrogen, carbon monoxide, acetylene, propane. The precursor is of volatile or evaporated silicate, tin, titanium, zirconium, aluminum.
