Chip card comprises a label, or support layer, on one side of which functional components are placed. A recess (3) is made in the label that has one or more contact tongues (4, 5) for making connections with a chip module that is inserted in the chip card (6). The contact plates are shaped so that they extend upwards to make contact with the contact surfaces on the chip module. An Independent claim is made for a method for producing an inventive chip card using a shaping stamp (11) of oblong shape that is used to stamp out the recess and after stamping is rotated to achieve the desired recess shape.
