[Also in Division F2] A method of attaching an end of helically convoluted tubing to a cylindrical sleeve element comprises trimming the last convolution of the tubing along a helical line of constant radius at the outer side of the deepest depression of the convolution to provide a helical ridge, extending over one turn of the convolution, and weld connecting the sleeve to the tubing along this helical ridge. The sleeve may be inserted into the end of the convoluted tubing beyond the trimming line, or may be butt-welded to the tubing, wherein the end of the sleeve is trimmed to a helical shape complementary to the shape of the trimmed tubing. The tubing may have a reinforcing braid sheath around it which is anchored to the sleeve.
