A lightweight headlight (10) is disclosed. The headlight (10) has a head piece (12) with one or more light sources (16), preferably LED arrays, secured thereto. A light projector (14), such as a lens (22), reflector (24), or some combination thereof, is affixed to the head piece (12), and a fiber optic cable (56) operably connects each light source (16) to the light projector (14). The light sources (16) may be pulsed at a frequency sufficiently high to be undetectable to a human eye. Heat sinks (34), thermal insulation (36), and radiation reflectors (38) may also be disposed between the arrays (16) and the head piece (12). A power source (18) housing may be affixed to the head piece (12), to the user, or the other clothing worn by the user.
