The electric motor (10) is coupled to a drive train (20) that has a number of parameter, e.g. torque, temperature, current sensors (60). A power electronics and control module (30) is coupled to the motor. This has a sensor evaluation unit (70) that periodically relays data over a communication link (40) to a monitoring unit (50) that responds to abnormal conditions.
