The method involves supplying a motor (3) with power according to at least one signal generated from at least one parameter describing the driver's demand and controlling the motor and power supply device (5) in accordance with optimized desired characteristics for the working point to be set up. If the actual operating values differs from the desired value the motor is driven to vary the power take-up so that the energy supply device is operated with optimized values and a demand generated for the energy supply device simultaneously or slightly delayed to match the mechanical output power to the driver's demand.
