PURPOSE: A method of displaying an image of a digital TV is provided to display an external video signal on the effective screen of the TV, automatically controlling an optimum aspect ratio. CONSTITUTION: A video signal having a wide format or a standard format is received from the outside(S100). When a user selects a wide TV(S110) and the external video signal has the standard format(S120), the horizontal magnitude of the video signal is compressed and displayed(S130,S140). When the user selects a standard TV(S200) and the external video signal has the wide format(S210), the vertical magnitude of the video signal is compressed and displayed(S220,S230). When the TV is the wide TV and the video signal has the wide format, the video signal is displayed without having any change(S150). When the TV is the standard TV and the video signal has the standard format, the video signal is displayed without having any change(S240).
