Apparatus for administering oxygen or air to a subject 43 in the form of a mask, a helmet, a connector, a mouthpiece or an airway 42 including a filter 9, 48, 49, 52 for the removal of carbon dioxide from exhaled oxygen or air. The filter may be a chemical filter containing lithium hydroxide, potassium hydroxide, sodium hydroxide or soda lime. Alternatively, the filter comprises a molecular sieve. The apparatus may further comprise adjuster means such as a rack and pinion arrangement to assist or hinder inhalation and/or exhalation of the subject in use the apparatus. Hydrogen peroxide or compressed oxygen may be used as a source of oxygen. |
