PURPOSE: A device for detecting an insertion of a smart media and a method thereof are provided to detect an insertion/imperfect insertion/withdrawal of a smart media with accuracy and prevent an error of reading/writing operation of data with respect to a device which uses a control/data bus identified with the smart media. CONSTITUTION: A plurality of insertion detecting units capable of checking whether a smart media is positioned at the first position(p1) corresponded to a predetermined complete insertion position or the second position(p2). If the smart media is positioned at the second position(p2), a micro computer(30) judges the position as an imperfect insertion state. The insertion detecting unit includes the second position detecting unit(28) mounted at an area adjacent to an insertion hole of the smart media, and the first position detecting unit(26) mounted at the inner end area of the smart media. In the case that the smart media is inserted until the second position, the second position detecting unit(28) transmits an electric potential value to the micro computer(30). In the case that the smart media is inserted until the first position, the first position detecting unit(26) transmits an electric potential value to the micro computer(30).
