Deep Vein Thrombosis or DVT (especially of the legs) with its attendant complications, such as stroke, is a constant hazard or threat in extended or long plane flights. Routine preventive administration of a blood- thinning drug such as aspirin or acetylsalicylic acid may be a useful preventive measure against this affliction. This is to be done with proper medical protocol. The airlines ma y adopt such preventive measures by ensuring distribution of information on and supply of the blood thinning agent to the at-risk group of their passengers as a part of their business.
