PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reverse running prevention device of a wheel when it happens by immediately detecting and braking a reverse rotation. SOLUTION: In a diesel locomotive, a torque converter 10 provided with a front clutch 1 is provided between a diesel engine 70 and a transmission 20. A rotation angle detector 27 is provided at a second intermediate shaft 24 of the transmission 20, a signal of the rotation angle detector 27 is processed by a controlling device 50 so as to determine the rotation direction of the second intermediate shaft 24, and a braking device is operated when the direction is opposite to the set advancing direction. By providing this reverse running prevention device, a simple and inexpensive torque converter which is similar to that used in an automobile can be mounted.
