PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the degree of freedom related to the selection of a material of a counter electrode in an electrochemical antistaining system and to stably obtain the electrochemical antistaining effect of a conductive substrate to be contaminated over a long period of time. SOLUTION: The electrochemical antistaining system consists of a conductive substrate to be contaminated, a counter electrode, a reference electrode and a power supply for outputting voltage across the conductive substrate to be contaminated and the counter electrode and, in the electrochemical antistaining method, the direct electron moving reaction of the conductive substrate to be contaminated and an organism is utilized. The power source outputs voltage across the conductive substrate to be contaminated and a plurality of the counter electrodes so that the potential difference between the conductive substrate to be contaminated and the reference electrode becomes a value having electrochemical antistaining effect and the counter electrode is constituted of a plurality of the counter electrodes and at least one arbitrary counter electrode among a plurality of the counter electrodes is selected only for an arbitrary time and voltage is outputted across at least one selected counter electrode and the conductive substrate to be contaminated.
