A sieve comprises two or more frusto conical sieve elements 33, 34 (Fig. 7) each with a different apex angle and concentrically disposed one above the other and connected with one another, the diameter of the upper sieve element being greater than or equal to the diameter of the lower sieve element in the plane of their connection, slits a (embodiment of Fig. 5) parallel or nearly parallel to the generatrix of the elements 33, 34 a gutter around the upper rim of upper element 33 (Fig. 7), and substantially tangential conduit feed means 27 (Fig. 5) or 37 (Fig. 7). In Fig. 5, semicircular strip members 28 are pivoted at their mid points 29 so that they can be adjusted to gradually narrow the channel space from either conduit 27. In Fig. 7, slurry may be introduced at such a speed through conduit 37 that clarified liquid spills over flange 35. The embodiment of Figs. 1 and 2 (not shown) comprises a rotatable feed conduit (7) and the embodiment of Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown) comprises a two way feed conduit with a flap valve (18). |
