PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an oxidation catalyst which is used for oxidatively burning a sample in an elemental analysis instrument, is not melted by combustion heat, thereby does not block up the flow passage of gas, does not cause severe damage, such as fracture of a reaction tube, to the elemental analysis instrument and which makes it possible to supply stable measured results for a long period of time. SOLUTION: The oxidation catalyst for the elemental analysis instrument contains (1) at least one selected from the group consisting of oxides of cobalt, nickel, manganese and molybdenum, and (2) at least one selected from among quartz beads, porous glass, activated alumina, a material obtained by supporting elements of a platinum group on activated alumina, and a material obtained by supporting compounds of a platinum group on activated alumina.
