PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vacuum cleaner with stable dust detecting performance. SOLUTION: This vacuum cleaner has a connection pipe 2, a rotary pipe 7 rotatably connected with the connection pipe 2 and equipped with a packing 16, a lubricating material applied on the packing 16, and a hose 3 connected with the rotary pipe 7. A suction passage 21 is formed in the connection pipe 2. On both sides of a dust detecting part 13 to detect dust passing through the suction passage 21, almost linear groove parts 18 are equipped downstream the packing 16 so as to face in the suction passage 21. Thus the dust detecting performance can be stabilized and improved because the lubricating material applied on the packing 16 is prevented from flowing into almost linear groove parts on both sides of the dust detecting part 13 and soiling the dust detecting part 13.
