PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the load of treating heavy metal-contaminated soil by employing a preferable small scale and cost saving method for post-treating the soil and water after removing heavy metals and a method which has a high efficiency in removing heavy metals from heavy metal-contaminated soil. SOLUTION: After water, an alkali metal halide and an acid are added to the soil contaminated with the heavy metals, the heavy metals are eluted and removed in the generated weak acid aqueous solution. The alkali metal halide is prepared in an aqueous solution of the concentration of 0.5-1.5 mol/L, which is used at a weight ratio of 5-10 times as much as the heavy metal- contaminated soil. The cleaned soil can be reused after elution of the heavy metals, pH adjustment and desalting. The aqueous solution containing the heavy metals is disposed of after treated by a known detoxification method.
