PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent thread cutting errors in the case of cutting a thread after inversely feeding a cloth by a final stitch. SOLUTION: The thread cutting device of a sewing machine is provided with a feed means 27 feeding the cloth 30 in a forward direction or an inverse direction, a horizontally rotating shuttle 32 provided with a rotating hook bobbin case holder 1 for housing a bobbin 21 around which a bobbin thread 23 is wound and a rotating hook 2 rotated on the outer periphery of the rotating hook bobbin case holder and provided with a sword tip 2a for catching a needle thread inserted by a needle passing through the needle hole 31a of a throat plate 31, a movable knife 4 provided with a catching part 4a for catching the bobbin thread and the needle thread, a fixed knife 5 for cutting the bobbin thread and the needle thread caught by the movable knife by cooperating with the movable knife, a thread cutting actuator 43 for connecting the lower shaft of the sewing machine and the movable knife, a feed amount change actuator 44 for changing a feed amount by the fee means, and a control means 40 for changing the feed amount of the cloth by the feed amount change actuator, driving the feed means in the forward direction for a prescribed feed amount, then operating the thread cutting actuator and cutting the thread at cutting the thread.
