[Also in Division F1] The pole-wheel 20 of a synchronous machine is carried by the bladed runner 11 of a pump/ turbine and rotates in a circumferential channel formed by flanges 32, 33 of the duct tube 17 and the bore of the stator 28. The stator bore is protected by a plastic sleeve 29 which serves to seal the liquid duct. The pole-wheel is encapsulated in resin or stainless steel. In a modification (Fig. 3, not shown), the rotor is of squirrel-cage type for induction operation.
