The assembly (1) is provided with a package (2) filled with granular material, such as ground coffee, and a valve (3,8). The package is made at least partly of foil material (4) and is degassed via the valve when the pressure in it rises above a predetermined level. The valve has an operating component (10) for opening it. A valve inlet (12) is in fluid connection with an inner space of the package and a valve outlet (16) is in fluid connection with an ambiance of the package. The operating component is mechanically connected with the foil material, so that when the foil expands as the result of a rise of pressure in the package the valve is opened to effect degassing of the package. The operating component is movable between a first and a second outermost position. In the first position the valve is closed and in the second position it is opened.
