PURPOSE: A method for controlling engine for a vehicle is provided to control slip of a torque converter, with compensating the inlet amount of air according to rpm(revolution per minute) of the engine compared with rpm of a turbine when reducing the speed of a traveling vehicle. CONSTITUTION: A method for controlling engine for a vehicle comprises steps of deciding whether the speed of a traveling vehicle is under reduction(S100,S110) and deciding the relation of the rpm of a turbine to the rpm of the engine(S120) and then outputting a predetermined control signal for compensating and controlling the inlet amount of air(S130). Accordingly the slip of a torque converter is controlled and tip-in shock, in case of tip-in by operation of an accelerator pedal of a driver, is reduced.
