The engine units 2a and 2b... can be replaced for installation with the image forming device. The image forming device inside is equipped with a control means 222 by which the overall device performance is controlled on the basis of the memory information of the memory means 212a and 212b... in the installed engine unit 2a and 2b.... This permits modifying the overall device performance relating to the recording rate and resolution or the like simply by replacing the engine units 2a and 2b... different in the performance even in the common image formation device. The versatile and diversified types of machines can be easily handled.
