PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To determine in accordance with selective feed from a plurality of paper feed means whether an exposure means should be moved for a document carried to and stopped in a prescribed position to scan the picture for read or the exposure means is fixed for the document carried to scan the picture for read. SOLUTION: An image scanner is provided with a second read area, where an exposure means 301 is fixed for the document moved along a contact glass 300 to scan the picture for read, and a common ejection means 15 which ejects the document read in the first or second read area, and scanning for read in the first read area or that in the second read area is selectively executed in accordance with document feed from one of a first feed means 11 and a second feed means 14.
