PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To apply a sufficient stabilized magnetic field to a GMR element, by reducing the shut loss of sensing current of the GMR element for improved current efficiency. SOLUTION: The GMR element comprises a GMR film 11 of a CPP structure, with a stabilizing film 21 provided on both ends of the GMR film 11. The stabilizing film 21 comprises (CoPtB) O compound, (CoPtSi) O compound, CoPtTaO compound, (CoPtNi) O compound, CoPtSiC compound, CoPtBC compound, CoPtYO2 compound, or a compound where Cr is added to the compounds; alternatively, it comprises for the granular structure to contain at least one kind from among Co.Pt, Co.Pt.Cr, and Co.Pt.Ni, as well as at least one kind from among BO, SiO, YO, SiC, and BC.
