PURPOSE: A reciprocating compressor is provided to prevent a piston from being pushed out by inside pressure of a discharge cover. CONSTITUTION: A compressor includes a first cylinder(11) and a second cylinder(12) fixed and installed in a hermetic container with an intake pipe(SP) and a discharge pipe(DP) to face each other; a first piston(21) inserted to the first cylinder to slide and joined to a mover, a magnet assembly(5), of a reciprocating motor(M) to linearly reciprocate; a second piston(22) inserted into the second cylinder to slide and joined to a piston rod(30) extending from the first piston to reciprocate in a direction opposite to the first piston; a first intake valve(41) and a second intake valve(42) installed on front end surfaces of the first piston and the second piston, respectively, to open and close refrigerant passages placed on the pistons; a discharge cover(51) covering discharge holes of the first cylinder and the second cylinder to use in common and fluidically connected with the discharge pipe; a first discharge valve(52A) and a second discharge valve(52B) detachably placed on the front end surfaces of the first cylinder and the second cylinder, respectively, to open and close the discharge holes of the cylinders; and a valve spring(53) interposed between the first discharge valve and the second discharge valve and elastically supporting the discharge valves to be alternately opened and closed.
