PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide electrode material for an electric double-layer capacitor, which is possible of further capacity increase, using carbon fibers relatively large in specific surface area, and an electric double-layer capacitor using it. SOLUTION: This electrode material for the electric double-layer capacitor employs, as the main material, carbon fibers where the end face of a carbon net layer is exposed, being the carbon fibers by vapor growth method where many carbon net layers in the shape of bottomless cups are stacked. The end face of the exposed carbon net layer is high in activity, and can be qualified by a functional group such a -COOH, -CHO, -OH, etc., whereby the use as electrode material becomes possible. Then, the section of the surface where the end face of the carbon net layer is exposed is uneven, and it is finely rugged on the level of atom's size, so that specific surface area is extremely large, whereby the electric double-layer capacitor of large capacity can be made. |
