PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide electric discharge lamp lighting equipment, which suppresses damages to the electrode of a high-pressure electric discharge lamp, while ensuring the starting properties. SOLUTION: A chopper circuit 1 has a variable output to load circuits, containing a polarity reversing circuit 2 and an electric discharge lamp DL and supplies constant current to the load circuit in a period, until the electric discharge lamp DL shifts to a stable lighting state from the start of circuit operation. However, directions are given to a determining part 41 from a lighting distinction part 44, so that the current value, which is in a period until it shifts to a stable lighting state after the confirmation of the lighting, becomes smaller rather than the current value in the period, until the lighting distinction part 44 confirms lighting of the electric discharge lamp DL. The current is set to the current value required for maintaining electric discharge until the lighting is confirmed is set, and after the lighting confirmation, the current is set to the current value which can be shifted to the stable lighting state. |
