PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To give a user, who specifies a search request for a plurality of XML- format data without worrying about the data structure thereof, an information search result not dependent upon the data structure. SOLUTION: When the user specifies elements of a plurality of XML-format data, the method according to the present invention derives all child elements of the specified elements of the data. The method then judges insufficient child elements as insufficient elements on the assumption that the specified elements have all derived child elements. Then, the method searches the XML-format data for the insufficient elements and gives the insufficient elements as the child elements of the search elements.
