PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To develop a high-pressure discharge lamp that overcomes factors which include prevention of melanism and electrode corrosion, prevention of flickers caused by the electrode corrosion, and prolongation of service life, and the like. SOLUTION: An ultra-high pressure lamp comprises a quartz sealed vessel 1, a lightening tube member 2, which is housed in the quartz sealed vessel 1, and a pair of electrodes 3, which face each other in the lighting tube member 2, where the electrodes 3 are made of rhenium, a tube wall load of the lighting tube member 2 is 1.0 W/mm<2> or larger, and mercury of 0.2 mg/mm<3> or higher, at least one noble gas among Ar, Kr, and Xe, and 1×10<-5> to 1×10<-2>μmol/mm<3> of halogen are enclosed.
