PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a human body detector constituted to suspend monitoring by catching the luminosity of a place where a human body sensor is installed, by the sensor itself, while informing a user to the effect that a monitoring state is suspended. SOLUTION: This human body detector is provided with a monitoring function suspending means for suspending a monitoring function performed by an image pickup device when the image storage time of an image storage means comes to a predetermined set time. Picked-up images are thereby accumulated, and when the quantity of light in a monitoring area is sufficient for picking up images, the monitoring state is continued. However, when the quantity of light runs short, it takes a long time for storage to complete the whole of one screen. When the storage time comes to the predetermined set time, the monitoring function is suspended, assuming that the place where the human body detecting sensor is installed, is low in illuminance. There is therefore no erroneous alarm generated by the human body detecting sensor.
