PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device which has a function to restrict the power of the driving circuit of a display panel and in which brightness and luminous efficiency are improved, and to provide a driving method for the same. SOLUTION: A maintenance discharge pulse is supplied between a line electrode pair by carrying out a first process in which the potential of one of the line electrode is gradually changed from a first potential to a second potential by the resonance action between a capacitive load and a first inductance element in the sate where either the line electrodes is fixed to the first potential during the light-emitting maintenance period of the display panel, a second process in which the potential of the other line electrode is fixed to the second potential, and a third process in which the potential of the other line electrode is gradually changed from the second potential to the first potential by the resonance action between the capacitive load and a second inductance element. When a power restriction circuit does not restrict the power consumption of the drive circuit, the process is shifted to the second process before one of the line electrodes reaches the second potential in the first process. When the power restriction circuit restricts the power consumption of the drive circuit, the period of the second process is shortened and the process is shifted to the third process.
