PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader and an image forming device that can prevent paper powder or the like caused when an original passes through a slit glass plate from dropping into a device main body while maintaining the removal of the slit glass. SOLUTION: In the image reader adopting a sheet through method provided with the slit glass plate 2 placed above an image read means such as an exposure lamp 4 and a 1st mirror 51, a mount member 41 for mounting on the slit glass plate 2, and a guide 23 that picks up a carried original in the vicinity of the slit glass plate 2, the slit glass plate 2 is provided with an elastic member 61 that is partly projecting from one edge of a lower face of the slit glass plate and mounted in a length direction so as to overlap with the mount member 41. Further, the guide 23 and the slit glass plate 2 are structured removably.
